Today in our Junior Kinder room, we explored the wonderful world of feelings and emotions
After watching a short story about Our Feelings, we began with a feelings check-in activity where children chose a face puppet and shared how they were feeling. We then extended the learning into a hands-on sensory experience using natural materials like rocks, gum nuts, sticks, leaves, and clay
The children were invited to create their own “feeling faces” on paper plates
With curiosity and excitement, they explored different materials—
– Leaves for hair
– Stones for eyes
– Gum nuts for features
– Clay to shape and mould expressions
Some beautiful moments:
– “I am making a happy face and eyebrows with gum nuts.” – Zemar
– “Teacher, I made a happy face.” – Stella
– “I made a sad face because I am feeling sad.” – Ali
– Asya creatively used gum nuts and leaves to design her face
It was heartwarming to see children express emotions, share ideas, and connect with each other through this creative experience
This activity supported:
– Emotional awareness
– Sensory exploration
– Creativity and imagination
– Communication and social skills
A truly engaging and meaningful learning experience for our little learners
